If you are her friend then why would you want to abandon her during her time of need? She needs all the true friends that she can get to help her deal with these problems. You don't have to solve these problems for her, unless you have some good suggestions, but if you are there to just lend an ear or just a shoulder to cry on then you are doing your duty as a true friend. If her problems are truly overwhelming for you and it's just really bringing you down then maybe it's best for you to walk away. Not everyone is cut out to be a great friend during both good times and bad. If this is the case then just do it, but don't ever insult your friend by trying to hang out with her when her problems are over, and they will be sooner or later. That would just insult her and hurt her that much more and it would also make you look worse than you already do by abandoning her. I would seriously consider if I am ready to dump this friend forever just because life is happening to her. Remember that you too live in an imperfect world and bad things will happen to you too and you will need a good friend someday.

Its not normal to give up on a friend because they have problems. Thats when we need each other the most.

However if her problems are legal related / drugs etc then yes you are best to stop the contact with her.

as a friend, if she got problems you should stay by her side! that is what friends are for!!!! =)

hear her talk about her problems and if you can help, you try to help. this will make her feel better as there is 1 more person to help her out.

Sure, even you cannot help to solve her problems, it is good to have somebody around to hear her out. And believe me, a lending shoulder or ear is helping her a lot.

Ask her about her problems and see if you can help. If you can't, better just back away and let her get over her problems.
