I ask this question because I have built a hybrid motorcycle, with a small, efficient engine, and a powerful electric motor, and can safely say these issues can be resolved. The performance is pretty impressive, and the economy is even more so.

I love the idea of a 100 mpg motorcycle. If it peformed as well as a standard 750 v-twin cruiser, or a 500 sports bike, then I'd be tempted. But for me, buying a motorcycle is based on multiple things: looks, handling, power, and price.

You can buy an old 250 Rebel, reach 75 MPH and get around 70-80MPG. And it is dirt cheap. I'd buy one if I had the spare cash.

However, I personally do track days and expect (and require) a higher level of performance than most. A midrange bike to me is something like a CBR600RR or R6 or the like, and the performance envelope is extraordinarily high. Given equal performance and price, I would still go with the Honda/Yamaha/Suzuki/Kawi even with 1/4 the fuel economy due to the large aftermarket. However, and no offense, I would have to see your bike in action on the track to convince me that the performance was on par with other superlative machines.

If I was only interested in riding on the street for commuting purposes, I would consider buying a hybrid motorcycle if the price were cheaper, but to be honest, I would prefer one that ran on biodiesel.

so you have a motorcycle with the weight of an engine, PLUS the weight of an electric engine and batteries--and it has the same performance of an unaltered bike? i don't believe it unless it's HUGE. which would suck.

and it gets 100mpg? but my bike gets nearly that already. if i wanted to save gas i'd just get a more efficient gas bike--not too hard to do some mods to give it even better gas mileage.

the real question is whether it can actually perform the way i want a motorcycle to--besides looking cool. does it have good acceleration? is the bike of a manageable weight? can I drive for long distances with it at high speeds?

if so then maybe. if it has some avantage over a normal bike. like price or smoothness at high speeds.

need a business partner......yes, i would buy one.

What kind of batteries do you have? I'm assuming some type of lithium ion chemistry battery, Lithium iron phosphate. but they can range into the thousands of dollars. For testing and scooting around the area, lead acid. would the battery be easily interchangeable? Battery technology/chemistry's is a fast evolving technology.

What kind of electric motor are you using? something similar to the Perm motor PMG 132 at 48 or 72 volts.

Does the ICE engine directly power the wheels and charges the batteries and both share in the propulsion, or does the ICE engine charge the batteries and essentially the bike is electric.

Can you bike be registered with the DMV? or are you using a frame of an existing bike and just gutting it?

Don't worry about the silent part. there are plenty of "silent" bikes out there. (BMW as an example). For me personally I would definately by one if it had a minimum of 750cc (cruiser) power and speed. Not for power or speed sake but for safety sake. Again that is just MY personal preference. Others will vary of course. Have you noticed the major increaqse in scooters the last couple of years? To that market segment the power/speed issue is not as important.

Also it would have to appeal to my sense of what I find aesthetically pleaseing. Of course with this one ask 100 people on what it should look like and you'll get 98 differnt answers. Lets just say it would have to look like a motorcycle and not a scooter.

Good luch to you. I know this type of vehicle has been in the development stages for a few years now. If you really are close to a "final" working prototype good luck to you. You're going to be rich....Want a partner??

Nope. I don't like noise for the sake of it, but on a motorcycle the engine noise is a safety feature. Riding an electric motor would not be as safe around cars. You would be invisible AND silent.

100 plus miles per gallon and I can go highway speeds? YEP, I'd buy it. It just better not be ugly, though. Because it's not so much what you ride but how you look riding it.
