I'm a nice person, and have normal friends/family. I attempted FIVE years of service for a wireless phone company and fielded the most absurd requests and attacks. I thought it was just over the phone. I quit.
NOW, my DAUGHTER (15 years old) is yelled at by customers at her first job at an amusement park. I don't get it!??! What is wrong with people?!?! I have NEVER yelled at anyone over the phone or in person?! I stressed for five years over people yelling at me before quitting, but dealt with it. Now, I can't understand who would yell at my poor child while working. What is WRONG with people!?!? Don't take it out on me or my CHILD! Why can you not act civilized and considerate around your fellow human beings?!?!!? I would NEVER yell at another person/teenager......even if my stuffed animal was the WRONG freaking color. Geesh, people; there are bigger issues in the world!!! Get over it/ACT Human...HUMAN!!!!
When did we lose our consideration for others!?!?!

Ah, my dear, I do relate to your frustration. I worked for a large city-run group of parking lots for 18+ years. Not everyone has been taught how to behave when they HAVE to pay after parking all day and don't have any money. It's the same everywhere, I'm afraid. There are many over-stressed individuals who have never seen anyone negotiate a difficult situation. And so many of us who have been yelled at, threatened, and dealt with poorly themselves, have just had more than we could take and "broke" at some point when we met a situation we see as ridiculous.

For myself, I just dug deeper into my inner resources, and offered understanding to those who were difficult. Patience turned out to be the best choice, if not always effective. After blowing up at me, and saying all they had to say, I would complete the transaction, and not having provoked any further enmity, they would realize their error, and most apologized. We live in an over-populated world, and that alone is enough to stress most of us to the limit. Then add the frustration of giant, un-caring corporations, small-minded employees, and so many situations that are out of our hands, and it's no wonder that at any given moment, probably near a million of us are blowing up at someone, and soon, they will be near blowing, too.

Maybe I should write a book about this...

I totally agree with you! I worked at McDonald's, a grocery store, and Wal-Mart. The customers were so rude, it's like they always expected me to bend over backwards and kiss their butts. They always thought that they were right and I was wrong, even though I was the employee. They would yell at me and complain when they didn't get their way. It's sad that people are so rude and inconsiderate towards other people. I personally think that everyone's first job should be in some kind of customer service, because then maybe these customers would learn to have respect and consideration for others. They don't realize it, but they really ruin an employee's day when they throw their temper tantrums.

I'm sorry, but some people never had any consideration for others. And other people just think it's ok to verbally assault others whenever they feel frustrated. Of course, it's not, is it?
