Are you some kind of long-lost twin brother? Because everytime I encounter one of your questions it fits what I'm experiencing. Weird.
I'm 45 and going through a bit of a mid-life crisis. Mine is manifesting itself in a slipping work ethic. In my early years I developed what is now called an "old-fashioned" work ethic -- a commitment to perfectionism, not letting one's personal life invade the workplace, being courteous and pleasant to colleagues and clients, etc. Now I find myself surrounded by rude and/or mediocre dolts and find myself starting to have a quiet but urgent attitude of "Oh, just f*** this idiotic sh** up its Godforsaken a**!"
I've actually started playing the Lottery again. It would be simply lovely to win $10 million dollars or so and just be able to get away from the teeming masses of stupid, vapid, and base people I'm forced to interact with.
Oh, and I hate giving in to these egocentric thoughts -- I'm basically a very benevolent person. This "being human" crap is a pain sometimes....
:-)

Here's about all one needs to know about "Mid Life Crisis":
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mid-life_crisis
And, don't sweat it; it's simply a reassesment of your priorities. You'll get over it, get past it, and get on with your life as soon as you accept it and look to what is important in your life now, as opposed to what was important to your in your, now gone, youth... I'm 60 now, and looking back on it, I can't figure what the big deal was when I was 40 and worrying about it. Now, instead of sweating it, I'm looking forward to the continuing changes and trade-offs that aging offers. It may help to know that, at 40, most artists are just hitting thier stride; musicians find their unique 'voice'; painters find their 'style'; and so on. So, don't look at it as the half way point; but rather, as the beginning of a new and exciting period in your life. Above all else, concentrate on making your life fun each and every day. The rest will fall into place quite naturally. Responsibility is cool, and necessary; but never lose sight of the need for enjoyment, fun, pleasure... never lose the joy you had as a child; it's what makes life worth living. Nurture the child within, your innate sense of play; the sense of wonder. Do this, and you're not half way; but maybe only a quarter of the way... to the ultimate adventure, discovering what's beyond this life. Don't worry about the destination; rather, enjoy the journey.

Let me describe it for you, you have been lead all your life by your ambition, but now you find that where ambition has taken you is not the place, where you heart wanted to go all the while, and this tug of war is creating a distress at the soul level which has now has finally surfaced so much so that now you cannot go back to the place where everything was under your control. Now the only thing that you need to do is to give up your control over your life, and let it finally live it.
Follow and do what gives you joy, and you know what does.

I don't think it's a mid-life crisis. I think you're having one of those episodes of personal epiphany. They come at different stages of everyone's life and they bring with them questions just like this one.
If it were a mid-life crisis the first you'd know of it was when your friends and co-workers pointed out the maybe the shiny red sports car you bought was a tad impractical and your new girl [ahem] friend, just a tad too young.

( moo...50 is middle aged if you live to be 100)
That is a midlife crisis in the making...you feel that way, so you cheat on your spouse...you knew you loved 2 days ago, you buy a sports car and get your ear pierced...or something like that...don't let it get to crisis level...you will look stupid and regret it later!

Me too. In the world but not of the world. letting Go of the sense of self separate and apart from God.
"The mind is not for thinking, the mind is for intuiting and manifesting the will of God." "God dwells within you as you." There is but one will. We are all united in that will, that unconditional love. Let me know what is left after the sense of self separate from God is gone.

“Is there a good answer to the question” "is there meaning to existence"? existence got here across, via the journey is/via loose will human beings taken experience founder. whilst this coronary heart (got here across) there in is expresses its own way, it say’s, existence is to hand in a position-ing existence I consistently. whilst got here across is the based one then existence has its roots, and its face’ and via letting love i?n?deed farther will its own existence meaning for the time of to the top that one (existence). while heavens got here across (heaven) and earth the founder (existence), makes for existence’s reason to of heed the now certainly one of Him of you. because it then is your face based in the blend and accumulated to that o?n?e existence being existence’s goodness’. specific’ existence formatted it’s Self: for the choose of n?ow the?n them reported’ so asserting who they're.
