Yeah everyone wants a superstar, but was it really what Boston needed?

It wasn't what they needed. The BroSox already had a solid bullpen, what they needed was another bat, possibly some speed and productivity at the top of their line up. Gagne is awesome, I would replace Papelbon with him as closer, but they would have benefited more for a productive lead off hitter that gets on base.

Kason Gabbard is a 25-year old non-prospect who's never had any success at all in the minors. After a couple of good starts, Epstein cashed him in for one of the better relievers available this trading season. He didn't have a role with the team anyway now that Lester and Schilling are back in the rotation and Tavarez serves as the swingman.

Your bullpen can never be too good. The Sox just DFA'd & traded Pineiro, and Donnelly's ending his season to TJ surgery. Together with Papelbon & Okajima, Gagne solidifies the best back-end in baseball.

Murphy was never breaking in with the Sox and he and Beltre were little more than add-ons. Boston gets additional compensation if they don't re-sign Gagne with the draft picks they'd net when he walks. This is a huge win for the Red Sox.

Hell yes. Gagne as a setup guy for Palpepon makes the Redsox the winner of the AL Eastern title.

Not their top need, but he is a heck of a luxury! Papelbon can now rest when needed. Also i think red sox manager wanted to move papelbon to a starter this season but ended up needing him for the closer role again this year so im thinking they may be thinking of next year moving papelbon to a starter and gagne to closer.

in view that they traded him, the pink Sox have been triumphing almost every day, too. Manny had exchange right into a distraction interior the clubhouse, he replaced into divisive on the team and he replaced into going to be a loose agent. Had they saved him, they could have had to place up with all of his antics, his pouting and loafing because of the fact he did no longer prefer to be there, and then after the season they could get no longer something for him. In that mild, the commerce looks somewhat a no-brainer. It hasn't injury them this 3 hundred and sixty 5 days, and it has helped them for the destiny.

YES IT WAS PRODUCTIVE!!!!!
Now they have 2 closers. Now when they rest Papelbon Gagne will be there closer. So if papelbon gets injured Gagne will be there closer.( odds of papelbon getting injured are 1 of 10000!!)

well they sure as hell didn't lose productivity. unless gagne dies tommorow. Am I the only one who thinks this is just a stupid question?

yes it was productive. this move will help their bullpen alot and you need pitching in the al especially versus the yankees. good pitching usually is better than good hitting.

No. The Brewers could've used him better. From Brewers fan, but as far as AL goes, go REDSOX!!!

i think it was more of a 'make sure the yankees don't get him' move. sort of like when they beat every dice-k negotiation offer by like 60 million just to make sure.
