I notice more and more younger folks are checking in and are letting their "voices be heard" in the senior citizens' lobby. Some seem to have stumbled into it by accident and don't know how to make a graceful exit. Some who stay are kind and some aren't.

Some youngsters are smart enough to realise there is a wealth of knowledge they can tap into.Others think we are just a bunch of know-nothing coffin-dodgers,we're not 'cool'.I think some seniors make the mistake of giving advice,& spouting their opinions, without being asked. If a youngster wants advice,i would be happy to give it,but i wait until i'm asked. There are plenty of old fools, just as there are plenty of young fools.

I could sit for hours and listen to the stories and tall tales my Father and my Uncle told. They were both born story tellers. Which really is a gift.

My children would sit enthralled for hours listening to them spin their yarns about their early lives, my dad was an airplane mechanic during the war, and he had some great stories to tell. My uncle had a whole repetoire of tales from the early days to ghost stories.

To this day my kids say "I miss listening to Grandpa telling his stories" How I WISH I had taped these two old boys - what a treasure that would be for future generations.

For those of you who have story telling elders tape them when they are telling their stories, dont let them know you are because it will inhibit them, I would give almost anything to have tapes of these two --

When we went to family reunions the others of my generation went off my themselves drinking and partying, I played horse shoes with the seniors, and spent my time with them. I really enjoyed being with them.

The last reunion we went to my then little daughter (5) held my one uncles hand most of the time we were there, and when I asked her why, she said he wont be coming next time mommy. She was so right.

Young people are....well...young. Though, I don't believe it's about the age when it comes to listening. The senior citizens should never give up on saying and be heard, because somehow, the younger people will hear and understand sooner or later.

In my own experience, I have found the younger generation (at least with my family and friends) to be interested "IF" they ask for the opinion of an older person. It seems they resent our trying to give free advise. Most are not interested in our trying to keep them from making the same mistakes we made.

Most aren't but they should be. I try to visit the marraige and divorce , singles and dating sections. We have lived through a lot and we seniors have a lot of experiences that could be of value. All those things that these young people go through we have also been through and learned a lot from it.....mostly the hard way. I try to prevent people from getting hurt.

I am one of the younger ones, though there are those who are far younger than I am (45).

I truly enjoy what all of you have to say. Some of my best memories are of visiting with my Great-Aunt (gone for 20 years now, bless her) and listening to her tales of the family. I learned so much from her about my family history and life in general.

All of you have words of wisdom and humor for those who will listen. Some of us listen. :)

Kids are kids! Just love 'em and let 'em be. But I do get a few who go to my Avatar, click my email and ask me a serious question. I suspect they don't want to make it public. There is good in every kid regardless of the exterior front. (Maybe?)

Don't know about the "kids," but this is the only section that has remained "sane." The rest of YA has gone off the deep end with nut cakes.
