Our once great nation is now ruled by greed and corruption.
Our once strong American dollar is now behind the Euro and the British pound and almost equal to the Canadian dollar.
Our government is choking this nation and has no intention of changing it's ways.
BUT, oh, our military. The greatest and strongest in the world. We can wage war around the globe but can't provide our citizens with free health care.
It's sickening.

America is a very peculiar place, and that tends to cause outsiders to misunderstand us. We tend to fight a lot when there isn't an overwhelming threat to unite us, so people think we're divided. 9/11 showed us a measure of what happens when you attack the US, but the lack of any further attacks has brought the fighting back. I believe that if we ever faced a dire enough enemy (China, Russia, ect.) and needed to go into World War III mode, you would see the same spirit we saw in World War II.
We have so many things dividing us in this country that other nations don't have to face. We have many ethnicities, many races, many religions, and MANY opinions. The only thing that really unites us is the fact that we're all American. So it's not until you attack America that you see what her citizens are really made of.
Then again, some people do understand us. "I fear we have awakened a sleeping giant, and filled him with a terrible resolve." Admiral Yamamoto

the people have been programmed to get things quick, instant gratification is now expected on everything, nothing that takes a long effort and long term is permitted or accepted, hence the dissatisfaction with the war in Iraq....!
why do I say this?
well...think of it? why are people that really are not directly affected by what is going on in Iraq pissing and moaning about a war most really don't know about or really care about except that it shows up on their TV news shows at night?
why?
well, because it is a nuisance in their lives! they have to constantly hear about the deaths in Iraq in the news even though less than 1% of the population today has a connection to one of the service people in the military as a WHOLE today in the country!
so if you look at it that way it is all about convenience, since most people really don't think about military people in their daily lives unless they are watching the news!
I know I am a military man.
so is America strong?
militarily yes, we are, not as strong as we were in the first Gulf War, military was twice the size back then than it is today,
problem is that the population is weaker, in my opinion, because they are unwilling to stick out a long conflit because in the end, it disturbs their daily tv life, even thought all that the disturbace really is, is just war news on tv, but really no big impact in their daily lives....!
and if a population can not even deal with that...well, then they are pretty weak in my book!

Americans are strong, even when we have our differences will stand together in a time of great need. Americans have gotten through a lot together and it is that history that will make sure we will stand strong.
In addition, these are wise quotes that can answer your peace and war question.
"Those who make peaceful evolution impossible, make violent revolution inevitable." John F Kennedy
"I am not only a pacifist but a militant pacifist. I am willing to fight for peace. Nothing will end war unless the people themselves refuse to go to war." - Einstein

Our strength is in our diversity -- that means neither the left nor right wing media have weakened us. Other countries have had strong armies (the USSR, Germany, China), but we have the Bill of Rights and the right to argue among ourselves until we hash out surprisingly good solutions, and that--though it's messy and takes awhile--makes us strong.

We are strong, but we are a confused nation right now.
Churchill once said Americans will do the right thing once all alternatives have been exhausted. We're working on it.

Striving for peace takes strength. Lashing out at the world around you and creating enemies is the sign of weakness.
