i love this age for babysitters. i make sure that the child has taken a Babysitter CPR class and i know the parents well. my daughter will stay at the family's home for short periods or i will take the sitter with me as i run errands, shop at the mall, or do volunteer work. by the time the sitter is 14, he/she is more comfortable with my child and can be left alone with her for up to 6 hours.

Im not sure, it is based on how responsible you think she is. I know if it was a boy I wouldnt let him babysit a baby at 12 years old because boys tend to be a lot less mature. Since you say she has all those certificates then she shows maturity by getting those. It is all about how comfortable. Often times a 12 year old will be a lot more responsible with your kids and attentive to them then an adult would.

I would definitely. As a matter of fact...should say, I do. Well she will be 12 next month. She only babysits once a week usually for about 2 and a half or 3 hrs. She knows what to do if theres an emergency, and I live in a duplex, so my neighbors are right next door if anything terrible happened. As long as theres an emergency plan in place "just in case" thats the main thing.

I was twelve years old when I started babysitting. The family who wanted to hire me was fine with my age because I was responsible, but my mother was unsure about it. So I got certified by the Red Cross and babysat with that family for a long time. It was a great experience for me and the kids who I now love.

I babysat last year (as a 12 year old) many times and was paid well. No kid ever was hurt, lost, or bored. I think babysitting depends on maturity, not age.
The youngest I babysat was 1, so I wouldn't go for 'sitting for families with young babies. Most of my clientelle were 1-6 years old.

If I knew the 12 year old and she knew my child or at least spent a few days with me to learn what my daughter is like and to learn her routine, and understood my rules completly then I would absolutly let them babysit!

I think 12 is the youngest I'd Hire. She wouldn't need previous experience as long as she agreed to let me teach her what i would like her to know so that i am comfortable and reasurred that my daughter will be in good hands.

If my children were older and we had a couple of "test days" where the babysitter came over and watched my kids while I cleaned house (I would pay her of course!) Then I would consider hiring a 12 year old.

But in all honesty I would rather have a babysitter who is able to drive themselves to and from my house :)

I would hire a 12 yr old IF they had experience with small children. When I was twelve I had a niece that lived with me...so dealing with children, especially infants was second nature. I think it also depends on how old the child that is going to babysat is.

She may only be 12 but if she had done all of that I would say she is mature for her age and i babysat when I was 12 so I would try and give her a chance! and if she doesn't do a good job then just say you don't want her to do it anymore.
