Cohesion = stickiness. Water "sticks" together due to the slight negative and positive charges on either end of the molecule. The molecules act like little bipolar magnets. This cohesion is a physical thing rather than chemical.

The oxygen strongly attracts the electrons of the hydrogen, thus attaining a negative charge (from the extra electrons). The hydrogens attain a positive charge as they "loose" the electrons.
