It's private school - ultimately, it is about more than just an education, but a lifestyle. You may not see it now, but they are teaching you how to present yourself and excel in the real world. Further, by going to a private school, you agree to the conditions that make them a private institution. If you cannot live with those terms, then perhaps it is not a proper fit for you.

In a word - DISCIPLINE.

ADDITION - There is nothing inherently wrong with doing your nails, doing your hair, and the like.

However, these things have nothing to do with Salvation History. Vanity often distracts us from Salvation History. Again, while good grooming is not wrong, sometimes - when take too seriously - it can become a distraction to our spirituality, and that is the lesson the school is attempting to impart with it's policy regarding nails and hair.

Every place has rules. Work, home, and school all have acceptable appearance guidelines. That is something one needs to accept in society. It's not all about you, it's about how you fit into the environment there.

That being said, you're in the tightest of the tight, when it comes to rules of dress and appearance. Private schools do not have to follow any public school guidelines and can be as strict as they choose to be. Their defense? Their families have chosen that school and have agreed to abide by their very strict guidelines. As long as you are there, you have no real choice.
