I've never heard a single peep from any major news network before the campaigning began for '08. He seems to have sprung out from nowhere, all because the media decided to "push" him into the spotlight.

First of all, I don't think he's black. He's from Indonesia or some damn place like that where Asian folks live. His dad is some kind of Indian, and his mom never gets mentioned because no one knows who she is. I've never known a black man who acts like that. Never.

If the media's intention is to show someone other than a typical middle aged, balding white man, I can see where they are coming from. I don't like or vote for these reptilian shape-shifters either. I might vote for Obama actually. I just want to know if the media bigwigs got together at the Bilderberger meeting and planned this, just like how they planned Clinton in the 90s.

No.

Obama created himself when he spoke at the Dems nominating convention in 2004. He electrified the audience, both in the room and on TV, and made himself a political force to be reckoned with by running for the Senate immediately after that.

Obama is also giving Clinton a run for the money--he's generating more in contributions than she is. These two facts point to the fact that Obama is real, not a creation of the media.

Having said that, my opinion of him is that he's a newbie. He promises everything to everybody largely because he doesn't know anything. He's all theory and no practice, all talk and no experience. We won't have any idea who he is for a long time; my guess is that he'll run for president 5 or 6 times the way that Ronald Reagan did, and then finally get in on the 6th or 7th try, after getting some real seasoning.

No, Obama is not a product of the media. This guy is already a senator so obviously people have heard of him before this presidential run. The fact that HE IS BLACK does make him a little more interesting. He is definately not the Al Sharpton/Jessee Jackson type at all and I think that is why people are intrigued. In all honesty he probably doesn't have a chance in hell, but for people who desperately want to see change in this country he represents a sharp contrast from what we normally elect in this country.

Sorry to make you sad but Obama is indeed black, well if you call the product of a white woman and a black man black then that is what he is. Not all black people act alike, maybe your only experience with black people is with black Americans but there are black people from all over the world who act very differently to black Americans. You should travel and maybe you will get a little more of a world view.

I think if the Democrats REALLY want the White House in '08, they need Obama to be their guy. Hilary inspires too much venom to get in from many independents (and even some Dems) and without those "swing" voters you can't win the Big Show.

I also second those who say he is a very good orator even though my vote's going to Ron Paul, primarily for his take on globalization/U.S. sovereignty issues.

Actually, his father was Nigerian. He did have some media prior to 2008. In particular, Kerry chose to have Obama give a prime time speech at the 2004 convention that was relatively well received. All Senators at some point in their careers get a brief glance from the media as potential presidents. It is up to the Senator to determine what to do with that brief moment of media attention.

Did you hear that much about Bush Jr. before he started campaigning for the '00 elections? Obama was well known in Illinois, because he's an Illinois candidate. He gave an incredible keynote speech in '04 at the Democratic National Convention, and after that was on the radar for those of us who paid attention. He's not just a creation of the media.

It really was a great speech. Check out the link, below:

He was the main speaker for the Democratic convention in 04.. I think that's where most people got their first real glance at him. Ever since then, he's been a major player in politics.. He's been around for a while, years before the media payed any attention to him.. So the answer would be no...

I think even Al Sharpton is voting for Hillary. He asks people to vote for him not because he's black, but because of the issues. I haven't heard anything on where he stands, only on how he wants to bring America together. Now he's starting on this racial profiling by the police. No chance of my vote thank you very much.
