8600GT, will my computer overheat?

Sort of in a big problem... need help from you pros here at answers.

I have an eMachines T6520. Don't laugh.

It has 1GB of RAM, 2 512's. 200GB hard drive. It originally came with an ATI x200. I gave it an x700 PRO. Didn't do much. It has a 300 watt power supply. Sick.

I want to get an 8600GT. I've replaced the rear fan with a 120mm fan. I am going to replace the PSU before I get the 8600. I'll probably be getting 550 or 600w with 120mm fans on them actually AIMING DOWN at my computer. My current power supply only has 1 80mm fan and doesn't have one on the bottom of the ps to actually suck air in and out.

The bottom line is, if I get an 8600gt, will my pc overheat? Remember, I'll be getting a 550-600w powersupply with a 120mm fan. I also replaced the rear fan.

PLEASE HELP.

hi, good answer. liquid cooling isn't much of an option but i'll try what you said. is a 550w psu good enough? or is 600w better?

Changing the power supply is a good choice right now. All the options you have made are well thought out and heading down the right road. Most high end graphics cards come with their own fans so overheating is not really an issue unless your case fans are really bad. Also if your case is tight, heat issues could arise. But you should be fine with what you have chosen. Liquid cooling is a waste unless you purchased a machine with it installed. Really, you get silence from water cooling and thats it. Fans can do the same thing, along with proper case arrangements. When I'm playing games, the volume is so loud I cant even hear my case so it doesnt bother me. Besides, hot rods sound good loud right?

550W is good enough.

My gaming pc has 2 EVGA GeForce 8800 Ultra Superclockeds in SLI mode installed. It took me 4 120mm fans and a 1000w SLI/PCI-E ready PSU to cool down my system. My personal computing pc which has a XFX GeForce 8600GT XXX in it uses a 450w PSU and is running very cool with the stock parts (HP Pavilion a6130n). Don't worry the minimum PSU watts are 300 for a 8600GT standard. But upgrading the PSU and fans is a great idea.

No it won't overheat if you do all those upgrades, in fact it probably wouldn't overheat if you just stuck it in right now, but go ahead and change the power supply, its a good idea. Don't confuse the 8600 with the 8800s, the 8800s are power consuming beasts, the 8600 is a midrange card, and does not consume a ton of power, and does not produce a ton of heat. You will be fine.
