Why did KG say that he had "never been on a cruise before," at the end of his news conference today? Was that some sort of Boston inside joke?

No... because in the news... reporters were saying that Kevin Garnett was on a cruise... and he had to leave it and come to Boston to sign the contract...
some guy on ESPN also was saying that.
so KG was just making it clear... that he wasn't on a cruise... and it was just another media rumor.
During the press conference it was also made clear that KG not wanting to come to Boston was also a rumor the press made up.
it was funny though. lol
hahhhahah... and I'm pretty sure... it was not a metaphor.

That is a metaphor. It's just like saying "never to a great team like this" where he is paired with two of the best shooters in the game and with him an unstoppable inside force the possibilities seem endless.
