You need a large pond. Bigger than the adverage back yard pond even, and they don't breed in aquariums.

Telling genders apart is difficult even for experts.

If you want good breeders, get Mollies, Platies or guppies. Just make sure you know where they're going BEFORE you breed. Also, do lots of research, it's not as easy as it seems.

It is very difficult if not impossible to tell them apart. Breeding is normally done in a pond, and rarely in an aquarium setting.

IT IS BEST TO HAVE A NUMBER OF THE GOLDFISH SO THE CHANCES OF HAVING MALES AND FEMALES IS BETTER ,CHANGE IN WATER TEMPERATURE CAN USUALLY START THEM INTO SPAWNING MODE YOU WILL SEE THE BOYS WILL BE CHASING THE GIRL PUSHING AROUND THE REAR END TO MAKE THEM DROP THE EGGS TO BE FERTILIZED .THEY CAN BREED IN FISH TANKS FOR I HAVE DONE IT MYSELF AND SEEN IT DONE THE TANK SIZE WAS 2 FOOT ONE TANK WAS 3 FOOT. THOUGH YOU SHOULD HAVE SOMETHING FOR THE EGGS TO BE DROPPED ON SO THEY CAN BE REMOVED TO ANOTHER TANK TO HATCH FOR THEY WILL BE EATEN BY THE ADULTS UNLESS YOU HAVE WEED IN THERE SO THEY HAVE BETTER CHANCE OF SURVIVAL. THE FRY CAN BE RAISED ON FINE FLAKE FOOD.THE EGGS TAKE ABOUT FIVE DAYS TO HATCH.

I disagree with the other answers. I bought a goldfish from a pet store once and she happened to be pregnant, which I discovered as soon as I saw tons of little ones in my tank. I immediately went out to get another little holding tank for the mother because they can eat their young.

i dont think its a good idea to breed fish only if you want to sell them or else breeding them in an aquarium will not workout for you,and its impossible to tellbetween a he and a she.
