The term second to none is just a phrase that also means that whatever you are talking about is the best. If someone or something is second place to nothing, then they must be first place. If "A" is greater than "B", but "A" doesn't really exist, then by default "B" must be the winner! Its just a cute little phrase... try using it with your girlfriend or boyfriend next time; i.e. "Honey, you're second to none!"

"second to none" would mean "first" -- that makes sense, doesn't it?
