No...the season before Bird joined the Celtics, they won 29 games. In Bird's first season, they manage to win 61 games. The Sycamores, the Indiana State basketball team, managed to reach the NCAA final in 1979 with Bird. I don't think they have been anywhere near a Final Four since that time. Larry Bird and Magic will be forever linked together as rivals, and sometimes friends, whether you like it or not. Magic got the upper hand in college, when his Spartans won the NCAA championship in 1979, and in the pros when the Lakers beat the Celtics 2 out of 3 times during the head to head NBA Finals meetings involving Bird and Magic (1984, 1985, 1987), but it doesn't take anything from Bird's greatness, which was shooting, whether it was 3 pointers, at the line, or just taking jumpshots. He could rebound and pass well for a guy of his size. He just wasn't a great individual defender, but a pretty good team defender, just like Magic.

If Larry Bird was overrated and just a lowly player then why is he always paired against Magic Johnson? The rivalry that started from college to the NBA. It's as if you're saying that Magic is also overrated. Larry was the best white shooter and is at par or even better than Reggie Miller whom I consider the best black shooter. And he one of those guys who made the NBA soar to new heights in terms of global popularity, so he is in equal footing with Magic and Jordan. NBA's big three.

You sure like attacking any great player that didn't/doesn't play for the Lakers. When Larry Bird touched a basketball it was magic... just respect the mans game.

oh hell no...larry bird was easily one of the greatest players ever to play..he held the greatest rivalry between the celtics and lakers and his rival was magic johnson! overrated...i would say underrated. he made passes that were unthinkable..like steve nash but a big guy. great shooter, a winner, great teammate. the nba could use more players like him in the league.

I don't think so, Larry Bird could have been white, black, hispanic, asian, It dosen't matter, he still would be the same Celtic great that gave the Lakers a hard time, as well as the rest of the teams.

Fakers has been banned, and KING got IP banned, just like Bruce Blitz.
Next up is Cavs in 08, the stupid little Lebron James cheerleader who wants both Lebron and Garnett to win the ring in the same season.
