I've heard that marijuana isn't even that bad for you and it poses hardly any health risks (like cigarettes and alchohol do). I have never used it but I know it can calm people down under stress and can be used to relieve stress. The only major risks would be using it while driving, but come on, we could tax this stuff like a liberal politician in Amsterdam!

Flirted with the stuff years ago, havent touched it for 25 years. I did not become an addict, or suffer depression or withdrawal even though I had smoked it regularly for 5 years.

If it were legalized, it would not be a "gateway drug". That is because, A person would not have to be in contact with pushers, in connection with marijuana.

The government makes big bucks off of its illegal status. But not like you'ld think. They get payoffs, (some agents, do) to look the other way, for years. They also confiscate cars planes and homes, when it suits them, especailly if the payoffs aren't generous enough. I realize, that many agents are honest and put their lives on the line to enforce the law.

All to often their worst foes, are their fellow agents. This applies to all drugs not just MJ. (marijuana). To legalize them would jerk the rug right out from under extremely lucrative business interest for very wealthy people.

As an elder care advocate, it truely irks me that very addictive drugs with horrible side affects are avialable legally for the terminally ill, but MJ, is not.
Don't give me any BS about how it can get loose and trickle down, All of them can and do. Oxicontin, is a major example.

Under the circumstances I am discussing, MJ relieves depression, boosts apptitite, eases nausia and pain, for many, (not all, but nothing works for all). I watched my elderly father die of a nonhodgkins lymphoma. The pain killers they gave him (legally) left him a shell, killed his appetite, gave him severe and painful constipation , and a bleeding ulcer.

At least he should have been able to try MJ, as an alternative. I am not about to say that there are no health risks involved, but look at the drugs freely prescribed that end up causing stroke, heart failure, ulcers, and other severe health issues. At least MJ has been around for years, and is a plant given to be used, as a medicine, in many cultures.

Our culture is based on recreational drug use. Tobacco and alcohol, among them. All have therapuetic use, and all can be abused. When in my teens and early twenties, I did try various drugs recreationally. I wised up, and do not use any drug recreationally now, but really am upset, that the therapuetic use of a common plant, is banned by law, while dangerous drugs are handed over to unsuspecting patients every day.

OK, it is a sore spot after watching my Dad die in agony, maybe he would have anyway, but shouldn't he at least have had the option. He was dying for Christ's sake. What harm would it have done to him to get high?

Sorry to rant

Good question, and there really is no good answer other than the government just likes keeping it illegal. There have been a lot of groups trying to get it legalized over the years and nothing has happened. It is much safer for you than drinking. And has been proven it does not lead to the use of heaver drugs, even though that's the big thing that the government likes to push. It even has health benefits. It helps people after chemo, it helps people with glacoma. It is great as a pain reliever. It is the best thing for helping you sleep. The only drawback I can see is that it gives you the munchies, so you have to watch what you eat if you are on a diet, but it is the kind of a drug that doesn't really take over who you are like acid, you still have complete control of who you are and can snap yourself out of the haze, not like with alchol. Yes, if it was made legal, which would make sense, the government could contol it and they could tax it, so not making it legal is rather anti the government in a way.
Also, when you think of it we have a President who has admitted to have smoked and his daughters smoke and get drunk, what a family. Considering the age of a lot of people in the government now, I'm sure there are a lot of officials who have partied in their time.

Well for one, you cant spell...
For two, You heard wrong... Marijuana is horrible for you... It makes you forget things... Which can lead to overdosing, or other side affects...

It does not relieve stress... it merely covers it up for the time being... and it doesnt calm you down... it merely incapacitates you... you just want to sit there and stare at the wall....
And marijuana is the same thing as tobacco, it is a plant, you smoke it, the smoke goes to your lungs... it still causes throat, mouth, tongue, esophagus, and lung cancer...
so I think you need to look up on this first...

And the only major risk is you getting high, then remembering that you forgot to take your medicine *which you already have*
and then you take it again... and end up overdosing....

I'm sure you've heard the term "gateway drug". Marijuana use leads to seeking better highs in many-but not all, people. And just like alcohol and tobacco, there would be people abusing it. Have you ever met a hard core stoner? Some people call them burn outs. They are completely lethargic. They rely on the drug to make them happy and can't be happy on their own because of the chemical dependency. No, it's not as bad as most other illegal drugs, but it's still not good for you. Hope this gives you some perspective.

Well, I Just have to ask. It bothers me so much to see how people hate pot so much. For one, no ones EVER ODed on it, No ones ever DIED from it unless they were stupid enough to go do something stupid, Everyones always happy and peacful on it. I just hate how they can aprove Alcohol and not WEED!!! each day people die from alcohol, for so many reasons... But pot.... When do you EVER see anyone seriously hurt except for getting tackled by a cop for having it and trying to run???
It shows that Weed isnt that harmful, But the Government wont have it because so many profits can be made from it and so many people would actually have money.

I feel that if everyone smoked weed that EVERYONE would be happy and peacful.
If you have something to say that has to put me down, than dont bother because i will never give up a fight about my opinion.

If anyone can really answer me....
WHY DOES THE GOVERNMENT HAVE TO TAKE SOMETHING AWAY AND PUNISH YOU FOR IT WHEN ALL IT DOES IS MAKE YOU FEEL GOOD?!?!
IS HE SCARED THAT THERE WOULDNT BE A WAR BECUASE OF THE PEACE? THERE WOULDNT BE ANY MONEY GOING TO HIM FOR ALL THE PEOPLE THAT DIE BECAUSE OF SOME STUPID CRAP THAT WENT ON?!?!?!

it's all fighting the superb job of propagandizing the substance that sets in the minds of the masses and the fear and peer pressure that comes with it . Also look at the huge amounts of money spent to normal and the war on drugs that would no longer be there.

Because pot takes away your ambition and those people that say that pot isn't bad for you...well they have no ambition to fight for legalization. If they didn't spend so much time smoking the stuff, maybe, those people would spend their time fighting the govt. for this cause. I'm in the minority, but I believe the stuff shouldn't be legalized for a number of reasons...and a number of personal reasons that have been horrible to watch.

it should be legalized medicinally and should be allowed to be sold to people of a certain age. weed has never caused car accidents or cancer like alcohol and cigarettes, so i don't understand why people always make such a big deal about it. the reefer calms people down rather than stirring them up.

The government enjoys wasting our tax dollars on prohibition instead of providing money for schools. That is the only logical explanation.

I have a dream of the entire government body getting stoned one afternoon, and suddenly realizing the prohibition is nonsense, and so is all the violence.

Because it would be very difficult to tax. It is too easy to grow. That is why it is called weed, it grows like a weed. If the feds can't get their cut they don't want it to be legal.
