..so when she was 3 years I finally managed to get her registered under my last name so that she could be in the public system, get access to healthcare, an education and all. She is 6 now. 4 years ago I got married to a wonderful man and we have a son together. We would want to get our kids under the same last name.do you know how we can do it..I am from Zambia, that's where my 6 year old was born and obtained her birth certificate..we are all in the US now..
Thanks

Your husband can adopt her. He just needs to find out what the paperwork and all would be and start there.

Well I know for kids that are born in the US your husband would more than likely have to adobt them by contacting a lawyer. That would be my first call.

Your husband needs to legally adopt your daughter and then she can be the same name as all of you. Good luck.

you know....everyone says to have your husband adopt her, but my mother never went that route. she went down to the Social Security Ofice and just changed my last name to my stepfathers. my last name was my stepfather's last name for 8 years.
i almost got fired from a job because i didn't provide my other last name. i didn't even know it was legally changed until i was 24.

Each state has its own procedure which can be found on sites like this one: http://www.namechangelaw.com/

You can also pick up the forms at your local courthouse or county records center.

Hope this helps.

You can't change her name unless her biological father signs away all parental rights in court and your new husband goes to court and adopts her according to U.S. law.
