They are definately amongst the pantheon of metal gods. Rob Halford is not only a great singer but he pretty much created the "look" of early metal.
Their earlier work is not as appreciated as it should be. Sad Wings Of Destiny is one of my favorite albums.
And they are great live performers.

In my book, Rob Halford will never leave his seat on the throne in the kingdom of Heavy Metal, and Glen and K.K. will always stand at his side as 2 of the greatest heavy metal guitar gods that have ever existed . Every song is a masterpiece, every guitar lick a fine work of art.
I never take a road trip on my Harley Fat Boy without a minimum of Sad Wings Of Destiny, Sin After Sin, Hell Bent For Leather, Point Of Entry, Screaming For Vengeance and Defenders Of The Faith on my MP3 player.
Long live the kings of heavy metal!!!

They always opened for Maiden ? uhmm nope their Turbo Lover tour they headlined, but like alot of bands from the late 70's to early 80's still around just older..
The most underrated song I believe is Diamonds and Rust.. Metal Gods was probably their best of all.

They're awesome. They can thrash, like on Painkiller, or they can make some of the most melodic music around. And, their latest album is even good. They've got another one coming soon (no pun intended).
My favorite JP song is Bloodstone.

During their entire career they always opened for Iron Maiden, not the other way around. Great band,though
