I bought my two yellow tangs about 2 months ago, but until today they started to fight... why is this? is it possible for one to kill the other? or should i divide the tank?....ty

Tangs will be territorial in a tank that's too small for them. A single tang should have about a 75 gallon tank to itself. Yours are probably small yet (they'll grow to around 8") but in the time you've had them, you've probably noticed they like to swim around the tank a lot. Imagine that at full size.

Yellow tangs will school in the ocean, but they have something of a social order in their groups. In a small tank, especially if you only have two, they only have each other to pick on. If kept in groups, you should have them in 5 or more so the aggression is spread around.

It would probably be best to either divide the tank, or return one one of the tangs.

yes they can kill each other, you aren't supposed to keep more than one of the same or similar kind on tang in the same tank, especially if it's a small tank.
how big is it anyway?
