I was answering a question earlier about bigotry and how we as a Society seem to be progressing beyond it. Yet, I thought how much more violence there seemed to be.
Why is it that people feel the need to resort to violence to get their points across? Why hurt another person just because you don't believe in, what they do or in how they love?
We wouldn't want anyone to do that to someone *we* Loved, so how could any human being do that to another??
One person's bloody hatred ends up being some one else's battered child.
Why?

the world's full of mysteries my friend, nothing beats the feeling of pain for other people. it's a cruel fact but it's part of life, do what u can to help and if we all contribute a little bit, we can make a difference, one small action on your part is one giant leap to make a difference in our world!!!

Dear Friend,
I wish i could give you a clear answer. I have hated and nearly killed another.
You know the reason but that was no excuse. I was beside myself with rage. All I can say is that it is self destructive. I might have taken my own life but for the help of kind friends. What they saw in me at that stage I do not know.
I learned forgiveness, then love even though I do not love THOSE people.

Dear Riverotter,
The SHORT answer to your question is: You're right... There is no excuse, short of self defense. for hamming another human.
UNFORTUNATELY in our rigidly stereotyped culture. The easiest way for a young man to establish a position within his pear group SEEMS to be by over reacting to the LGBT community. How anyone can prove they are heterosexual by going to prison and sleeping with Babba, I have yet to figure out.
And yes I know... My answer is a joke. But I really do NOT understand the logic of it. So my best answer it to point out what I see wrong with the logic of it all.
Hugs,
PennyAnn

why? i dont anyone can really answer y. its because we're all human. people tend to be afraid of whats different to them. and how can u be afraid of something without looking like a coward? u get angry. u get violent. its something that should end today. its something that should have ended long ago. its something that never should have been started. but its true and real and its here. theres always gonna be someone who would rather use violence then love and understanding and acceptance. always. we just have to be aware of that. yes we should try to prevent it. do wutever we can to lessen it. but i guarentee that we wont be able to make it go away completely.

Because that is part of who we are. Everyone has the potential to turn to violence. The only difference between now and earlier times is that the toys have improved.

Because they haven't found Y!A to spew their hate on.

Now seriously, I think it comes from a lack of ability to reasonably disagree with something. Many acts of violence are perpetrated out of fear. Be it fear of homosexuals, fear of strong women, fear of cheese. These people feel threatened by something and because they can not constructively express this fact they resort to what there frame of reference is. Society has strong reactions to hate and violence, people see this as a valid way of getting there points across.

Humanity needs to hate someone. Today it's the gays. Last century it was the blacks. In a hundred years, who knows? Society always finds a group to blame. Gay marriage seems to be the big threat today, as if Mickey Rooney, the Gabors, or Britney Spears (got a free weekend?) isn't a threat to marriage as we know it. Oh, well... I have no idea why but it happens. Damn.

Have you seen me try to engage in dialogue with some people?
Have you noticed Iran snub the international community that is trying dialouge?
What would have happend if we listend to Chamberlain instead of Churchill?
Sometimes some people give you no other choice. Should I reason with a rapist or stop him by all means needed?
Sex is violent.
Birth is violent.
Death can be violent.
In between the struggle for survival can get extremely violent.

We are only pretending to have 'evolved' beyond certain primal ways. Now instead of kicking my butt, my enemy works to ruin me profesionally and privately all the while smiling to my face. I would much prefer the butt whipping any day.
Look at Wide Awake, he may claim to be peaceful, but why does he work so hard to have others kicked off?

I think to deny our primal selves is to deny ourselves. It's what has kept us alive thru the ages. And when civilization falls and the quaint ideas of liberalism falls with it, it will again keep us alive to continue the species.

Now as for the violence you speak of. Just look around you. We as a species are losing the capability to use our minds to express ourselves.
Just look at the replies I get to know that releasing ones aggresion is met with resistance and frowned upon by todays 'nice' society. So it is held inside, denied, ignored, until it inevitavely is released like at Virginia Tech.
Do you think you are likely to shoot up a campus if you are allowed another form of release or way to express your discontent?
It is no surprise that most of these killers were the quiet introverted type.
We really are not that far from the caves and the mammoth hunts.
