The liberal slant in the media. Im sure this is going to cause someone to roll their eyes but its definately there, whether or not you will accept it. If you go by what you hear on CNN or some other left-biased station, the informationabout Iraq is VERY negative, while we are actually making serious progress over there. Its not going to be fast and painless, no. But this isn't a party. It is a war. People will die and it will be difficult. Thats all there is to it.
The media, though, reports only the bad. Did you hear about the soldiers who are training the police force over there? And now the police force is helping them? Or about the clothes they distributed to the kids whose homes were blown up? No. You didn't.
But I bet you heard about the suicide bomber who blew their homes up.
The pessimistic attitude is catching and people are pressingfor troop withdrawl, which would be disaster. What good would it do to have that country taken over by people who want us dead?

I think American needs to overcome politicians who are only in it for the money. I am tired of hearing insults from both parties as a political campaign. I am tired of political parties dividing this country between red and blue states. After all we are all Americans and we are in this together. I think we just need to have some more unity. We could overcome it with politicians who care less about the money and more about the country. The only thing that can destroy America is Americans destroying it within.

I have been reading the answers to this question. I am surprised and dismayed to see so many people willing to place the responsibility of the American condition on the President who has been in office for so little a time.
The decay of the political system has been going on for many years. I believe that we first began to realize it when Kennedy was assassinated. Because of the advent of televisions in the home, we could see for the first time that what we are told is often not the entire story. Our innocent belief that the system works well was lost. It continued throughout the Vietnam conflict, when for the first time the war was brought into our homes. The horrors of war did not change; our view of them did...it became more personal.
Yes, the media has a part; it is difficult, if not impossible to report on anything without slanting the facts to your particular point of view.
Yes, the politicians share a large responsibility. Many of them have too great a desire to be "in power" and have forgotten what it is to serve the people.
Yes, the people have the largest responsibility. We have allowed ourselves to be held hostage by "political correctness" and compromised our values in the name of "social progress".
Absolutes are of the greatest value. Without them democracy becomes anarchy.

Itself? It's role as the only remaining superpower.
Perhaps within the American administration there needs to be a greater realisation of the world outside the US and a willingness to acknowledge universal diversity.
I mean no disrespect to Americans. This is simply my opinion.

The socialist agenda that is being shoved down our throats by the liberal congress is the greatest obstacle. The best way to overcome it is to vote these bastards out of office.

The State.
Is that people think that politicians are the way to the solutions of their problems...........and let them take too much power.......
Politicians (Democrats and Republicans), looking for power and money (ones love Warfare, the others love welfare)
Political Leadership is a Myth.............
We need to return to Jefferson Spirit : limited power, freindship with all nations, free trade, respecto to private properties, PEACE, prosperity for all, decent people taking their decision for their loves ones, no more regulations, honest hard worker free people taking decisions...............
Only Ron Paul is talking about this....................................

There's so many to chose from.
But to wrap it all up, I say we need to get back to the nation we started as. But honestly, I don't think we'll ever do it.

division...every interest groups wants their agenda pushed on the American people no matter what is costs...its tearing our country apart...i think we should make all campaign donations only from American citizens and cannot exceed $1000 per person...that would stop alot of interests groups pushing their agenda...
