i kno that i have been waiting since jan-feb. for this nfl season to begin. as a steelers fan i have been counting down the months, weeks, and days until this sundays Hall of Fame Game. I just love football, as soon as its over i cant wait for it to start again. i think some of it has to do w. the fact thats its a tradition in my family to be steelers fans no matter what part of the country we live in and i feel like they represent us as blue collar, hard working people. So why cant you wait for the season to start or am i the only one counting down like a crazy person!?

Ah man, this question hit the right spot. I have followed news and updates ever since the Super Bowl. I thought I was the only football crazy! Man, I've been keeping up with NFL Network, NFL draft, draft pick signings, yahoo sports, NFL blogs, Steelers.com. You name it, I've done it. Man, what happened last year? Turnovers? Big Ben head not on straight? Anyway, last season is over. This is a new season. I have heard rave reviews about our new coach Mike Tomlin. Last year, the Vikings were first in rush defense, but 20th in pass, which is the area we need help. I'm glad that Tomlin is not changing to the 4-3 cover 2 defense, although some Cover 2 will be welcomed so we won't give up so many big plays. I think Mike Tomlin will bring positive results to the Steelers. He looks like a winner. We need to improve on special teams, though. But I think Tomlin will stress this area. Our two defensive draft picks will bring great athletic ability to the defense. We will be solid on offense with Ward as usual, Holmes with a year under his belt will be an even bigger factor this year. A good running game with Barlow as an addition to Parker and Davenport. Man, that's a 3 headed monster. We pretty much have the same offense with Bruce Arians. Did you know that he was responsible for the development of Peyton Manning? Man, if he could do that with Big Ben. We will have the best fans as usual with the Terrible towels waving around Heinz Field. You know once the season starts, all the Steeler haters will come out of the woodwork. Oh well. Here we go Steelers here we go!

It is the fact that the NFL season is so short compared to all of the other major sports. With only 16 regular season games, almost every game is meaningful for every team. On the other hand, hockey has 80+ games and baseball has 150+, so a team can lose 10-20 games and still have a shot at a decent season, or they can win 10-20 and not be gauranteed to make the playoffs.

In the immortal words of Howie Long who said it best, "baseball may be America's past time, but football is America's passion."

What makes us love football? It embodies everything this country stands for, hard work, team play, strength, reward, punishment, sacrifice and raw ability. It has something everyone can relate to. Whether you believe in the all-american Cowboys, the villanous Raiders, the hard-working Steelers or the squeeky-clean Patriots, there are players and teams to identify with and cheer for.

I have been waiting for the Hall of Fame Game since February. It's on!

Everything that was stated here is very true. But I think there is also one thing that makes us love football, simplicity. When you really look at it, forget about running a flat, a button hook, or a Cover 2 defense. The object on offense is to get to the other teams endzone, invade their "fortress". The object of the defense is to simply stop the offense. With it being that simple, anybody can pick up on football the very first time they watch it. But to us hardcore fans who have been watching for years, the simplicity along with strategy and teamwork that is put into a game makes us love it that much more. Man, I can't wait for this season to start.
