Have you ever send a letter to someone in a different city but same country that was sent back to you by post office because of incorrect address or other reason? What did the envelope look like? Any kind of stamps or stamps on there in ink? How does it look like?

The envelope is the same one which you sent out, but either on the front or back, there is a stamp with all the possible reasons why the envelope could not be delivered, e.g., no such address, incomplete address, person moved away, no such person at that address, etc, and the applicable box is ticked by the postman so that you know why it was not delivered. That is why it is important to have a return address somewhere on your envelope. Without it, the post office wouldn't be able to send the envelope back to you and you'll be wondering why there's no reply.
