Well i think wait until they can sit unsupported. After that point i see no reason to wait. Make sure you go to a kids place, here in Michigan there a place called carnival cuts, and for 1st haircut, they save you a piece of hair, take a picture, and give the kid a certificate. Makes it a lil more memorable!

My son had his "first" haircut when he was 4 months. He went completely bald on top - and left a 1/4 of his hair on the bottom half- which was LONG and straight. Didn't look right- and since he was an absolutely adorable baby- I cut it! =)
The top hair eventually grew back in- and at 17 months (his hair has never been thick or very long other than when he was 4 months) I gave him his first REAL haircut to look like a little man! =)
It all depends upon how you feel. I prefer a clean cut- lil' man look- while I know friends of mine- loathe cutting their sons hair- and can't bear to cut 'curls' off! To each his own!
btw- my son now has CURLY hair :)

You have to be careful because baby's hair grows in different places. It coud be thick on top and thin on sides and look really funny when you cut it, but when you do it, it's up to you. Some babies are born with a full head of hair and need a hair cut at like 2 months. Others, like mine, are nearly bald.
Still waiting for the hair fairy....

It's entirely up to you. I waited until my son was 16 months. He had beautiful curls in the back. My husband kept pressuring me to do it. Once you cut it, it changes the hair. I have trimmed my others bangs at a young age but not their hair (girls though).

So long as it's not in his eyes, I see no reason to. Also, you can just go to the library and get a book on trimming young children's hair. Save the barbershop cut until he actually has hair vs. baby curls.

Why would you have to wait? One of my babies was born with a lot of long hair, he is also a boy. And right away I would frequently trim his hair. I would just do little by little, everyday cutting some part. He is now 7 months and we have been using a hairclipper for a while now.

I cut all mine early on. Because my mother who was a beautician told me too, because it makes the hair grow in thicker. All of my older kids have beautiful thick hair, even my boy. But he didn't get his first clipper cut till 5 months. My mom wouldn't do it before then, wanted to wait till his scalp got a little tougher. Before that I kept it trimmed short with scissors. And my girls I started trimming their bangs as soon as they started to grow. My littlest one had her first hair cut at 2 weeks old because she was born with long hair for a newborn and her bangs were in her eyes. Was never a question she was gonna have thick hair. She 5 months now and in pictures she looks like she has a wig on she has so much hair.

You can cut your childs hair at any age. Remember to be careful because some of them move alot. My son had a full head of hair when we was born and it wasnt until my father (his grandfather) said something about it did I get it cut. I had it cut just after his 1st birthday but I know ppl that cut their childs hair at 3 months.

When it gets so long that you actually think he looks like a girl too! My B/Friend had to cut her daughters at only 4mths but you only trim off enough to neaten it up and then go from there.
DO NOT leave it long for ages or it'll turn into a girl looking celebrity kid like Elle McPhersons boys, Cindy Crawfords boy and Kate Hudson's boy Ryder.
They all look like girls
