depending on your processors speed any application can slow a PC down basically if you notice it has slowed down after installing an application then it was probably the application .. you can turn off various elements of it email scanning etc but it Will compromise your PCs security somewhat consider a less system resource hogging security suite like nod 32 or c.a anti virus

Nortons is notorious for slowing computers down.
The best way to get a handle on it's impact is to take the competition for a road test. The better products offer free downloads and trials for up to a month.
Word of caution, after you download a product de-install Nortons before installing the trial product or your PC will jam up.
My personal favorite is ZoneAlarm.

It didn't slow my computer down. I have Norton 360 on my Desktop and my Laptop.

be certain to read the product specs and KNOW what your computers have

I found last winter that some Norton products didn't like my computer ... weren't fully compatible with RAID arrays and ntfs

The more programs running on your comp. means the more processes are being ran and that uses more memory and prossesor , therefore the system runs slower .
