How does tying up key official's time to try and set perjury traps help the president do his job?

It hasn't.
They aren't trying to help, they are jockeying for position for the next set of elections, consequences to the nation be darned...
Of course, many republicans are doing much the same thing...

...like the investigation of the Walter Reed mess? The republican controlled congress sure let that one slide. Maybe the dems should just get out of the way.

It hasn't. The Bush administration rolls right along as if the Democrats were still the minority party.

It is called checks and balances, the executive must justify its actions to the legislative because after all he is just our employee. The president works for us, he does not rule us and his loyalists do not get a free pass to lie to us.

Restoring some sort of balance of power is the best thing anyone could do for our country.

i wondered the same thing when ken starr and newt was doing it. congress acts like a bunch of little kids most the time,regardless of who is in control.

you know....i am scratching my head on this one. i cant think of ANY thing they have done, besides wast a lot of money with their crap investigations!
