I have heard the rumors that as recently as Monday Ken Holland met/spoke with Forsberg's agent.
As a Wings fan I'm certainly not opposed to this move as he would make a great Center for the 2nd line. Additionally he should feel at home with the fellow Swedish gold medal team mates.
The biggest question is health however I'm sure Kenny H would put together a deal much like the ones he gave Bertuzzi and Hasek last season. (base salary plus bonuses).

As for "Royfan" that states Detroit is dangerously close to the cap according to nhlnumbers.com we still have just over 5 million to spend.

Detroit lost its entire second line (Lang/Calder/Bertuzzi) so even though they have some youth stepping up (Filpula & Grigerenko) they could definately use Forsberg (ppg player even when hampered by injuries). The question is, would Forsberg consider Detroit? He would be crucified by all his Avalanche fans. He has stated he'd likely return only to Colorado or Philadelphia, so while Detroit could use him, I see it as a slim chance (10% if I had to guess).

He isnt eligible for an incentive based contract like Hasek because he isnt 35 yrs old. Detroit has plenty of room to sign him under the cap however.

I think that if Holland can put together an incentive based deal, it might not be a bad thing. We all know that his agent has talked with the Wings but I think Forsberg would rather have a deal that has more guaranteed money. At this point in his career it's all he really wants. While he would probably like another cup I think he would rather have the money.

Ken holland has talked with Forsbergs agent and expressed intrest. As a wings fan I would't be agaisnt it, or a rumored selanne sigining but I know both are very unlikely. Besides we got to let our young talent grow sometime. Fillipula and Hudler Are the next Dats and Zetts.

Peter Forsberg's agent has met with several teams since July 1st. Peter has told some of his closest friends that he is still undecided as to his plans. However, he is an unrestricted free agent, an amazing talent, and anybody is free to talk contract with him.

With all these rumors about Forsberg--does anyone know if he can still play?

I hardly feel that he sucks. He is just never %100 healthy. To answer your question, it is unlikely that he will go there because The Red Wings are already dangerously close to the salary cap limit.
