A company I worked for in the past is now a LTD company & it once had a sole owner... I am curious to know who the current owners are.

Look online at the Secretary of State Office for your state. Most of the time they have the records posted online.

depending on state laws and the actual situation, this may or may not be available.

usually, the letters "Ltd." literally mean "Limited" and indicate that a corporation was formed. The founding owners may or may not be public, (depending on state).

a limited partnership is usually designated as "name, LP". Afaik, in most states, the names of the limited partenrs are not availble. All a limited partner puts up is money. S/he can not be sued by the firm's creditors even if it goes into debt. [In a general partnership, the partners are personally and individualy liable for the firm's debts.]

In either case, if there is some good reason, you may get the ownership information via a court order. Usually, the firm would fight this.

Go to the company's registry (in some places is the chamber of commerce of the city or the entity that controls and supervises companies) and ask for a certificate of existence and representation of the company.

The city's Planning & Building Dept. will have this on file.
