gators are dangerous for more reasons than you might be eaten.

gators are very strong and fast inspite of their bulk. They hunt by hiding at the edge of the water and striking the food that shows up for drinking or anything else.

gators also have fungus and bacteria in their mouth making even bites a real concern for survivial. A woman in australia spent 24 months recovering from the massive infection. Nevermind the crushed bones and internal injuries from the death roll the gator did before stuffing her under a log where her face was above water and she did not drown.

gator vision is better than you can imagine and even in the darkest of conditions that gator can see you. The will often bite at movement. They are excellant hunters. A barking dog is a ready meal where gators associate the barking with dogs.

they are your worse nightmare, under many conditions.

Unfortunately for people an alligator can be very dangerous. There have been more gator human contacts that have resulted in injury and death. Not the alligators fault though. There are just so many people intruding on gator habitat. Also, there still exist those fools that insist on feeding gators. Worse thing a person can do is train an wild animal that a human is a source of food.

The American alligator is one of the successes of the programs used to bring animals back from near extinction. So, there are plenty of them.

gators are not very dangerous if you don't present a serious threat to them. crocs are the ones you should look out for, because they are very aggressive. crocs are generally larger than gators and I think their bottom row of theeth sticks out, while the gators' have their upper row of teeth out.

They can be dangerous, but I don't think they will usually attack anything unless it's small enough for them to eat easily.

They may fight back if someone disturbs them.

Other times they seem to be very passive, reptiles are strange in that way.

They WILL eat people if they get the chance. They more often get dogs because the dogs get close to the water without noticing the predator.
