It seems like different people have different ideas about what that question means. Are you asking what is the definition of life such as would be found in the dictionary? Are you asking what the purpose of life is? Are you asking what the ultimate goal is in life? Are you asking what is the ultimate end to all of our actions? Are you asking what is the point of existence (which not only includes life, but also non-life such as rocks, dirt, water, etc.)? Just curious to know :)

Or do you mean specifically what is the purpose of HUMAN life (as opposed to animal and plant life) or YOUR specific life?

When I first asked that question, I meant all that you mentioned and then some. It's such an ambiguous question that there's really no answer without creating an infinite number of further questions. I've learned that the only way to truly discover what the meaning of life is, one only has to live it.

All of those ways you have described the question presuppose the existence of a Creator. The very word "purpose" implies an intelligent plan and that implies a Planner/God.
“Unless you assume a God, the question of life’s purpose is meaningless.” –Bertrand Russell (20th century philosopher, mathematician and Nobel Laureate)
However, many people are satisfied with just a feeling of having a purpose and there are many psychological techniques for creating this feeling/illusion. Helping at a homeless shelter, for example, will make you feel better about yourself and then you can imagine that helping people is the purpose for which you were created. You don't need God to get the feeling. Perhaps in the future we can get the feeling from a pill.
But if we insist on real purpose, we have no recourse but to seek God.

Everyone's life holds a different meaning. Just as everyone's life holds a different purpose. To ask a general question like "what is the meaning/purpose of life makes no sense.

I would NEVER see "What is the meaning of life?" like a definition in a dictionary or "What is the purpose of this life?" I think all our lives are planned before we get here.As for the ultimate goal it is different for each of us to achieve our own goals.I would NEVER ask what is the point of existence,I thank God for every thing he put on this earth and gave to each of us.
How do YOU see it all?

Yeah, I've always wondered what the point of existance is. It's got to be more than to propagate the species, though. There is no exact definition, since everyone has their own goals they'd like to accomplish in life.

I don't think that it's meant for us to know but to actually learn...So that we could appreciate it more. I'm having more fun learning what may mean instead of knowing what life means.
