And all the "Help wanted" sign when you walk in to a store?

Yes...how the history of the 80's has been re-written. It is so sad because they were wonderful times. You know how you create jobs..adopt Ronald Regan like strategies...cut taxes on business and let free enterprise thrive. In 1987 McDonalds was hiring employees (closers) for $8 an hour. In todays dollars that would probably be close to DOUBLE. Imagine $16 an hour to work at McDonalds. Why did this happen? The economy was BOOMING. There were not enough people for the work. When this happens, PEOPLE have the POWER to shop for jobs and DEMAND higher wages. That's the way to help the poor and lower class...not these BS minimum wage increases.

If the spending by congress was controlled better at the time. The deficits would not have skyrocketed.

Anyone who remembers the 80's...remember what it was like to have employers begging YOU to work their job!

Anyone who is giving me the thumbs down - doesn't understand common sense...Give me a break

Hm. I was nine when the 90s started, so I guess I don't remember that much. But I do remember that song from earlier, about:
Signs, signs, everywhere signs.
Sign said, long haired freaky people need not apply.
So I tucked my hair up under my hat,
and I went in to ask them why.
He said you look like a fine, outstanding young man.
I think you'll do.
I took off my hat, and said imagine that.
Me working for you.

Sorry. Have you ever got that one wrong. My brother got laid off from the railroad in '82 for 2 years with 26 years service. My brother in law got laid off with over 20 years service for 2 years. They both had to relocate when they went back to work. We had a contractors business and it went under. There was no job to be had unless you were a temp. Then to survive, the standing "joke" was how many jobs do you have? Those were some bad years. They changed many lives for many years and not for the better.

There are some good paying jobs around here for young people who want to work 4 days on and 3 days off on a swing shift at either very hot or very heavy work. Pretty life altering.

No, that was before the 70's. Now, unless it is a little one horse or tumble weed town with no newspapers, computers, and employment agencies, "help wanted" signs are not needed. Have to say , I still like them little one horse towns, some are so peaceful. One day, I will retire and find one to live in.

I don't remember that. But if help was needed, that is good. No work available would have been much worse.
