I would like to say he saved us countless billions by reducing the need for additional military spending in order to combat the Soviet threat. However, by looking at the current military budget and the escalating cost of the war I can't really say that. We are still spending the money. We just aren't buying missiles, submarines and Star Wars with it.

For those people saying Reagan didn't contribute to bringing down the Soviet Union. You really need to listen to some of the commentary from some of the old Soviet Generals who present quite a different take on the matter. Many of them consider Reagan's positions and tough stands with the Soviets a masterful stroke. However, it wasn't really the military machine which led to the ultimate downfall. It was Coca Cola and Levis jeans. You cannot introduce free culture ideas into oppressive societies without creating an extreme backlash against the hard line. If you need evidence of this watch the changes as they are unfolding in China.

I don't know what kind of revisionist history you've been reading but you should get the facts. The westernization of the Soviet Union and the Eastern Bloc came from within, from brave men like Lech Walensa and Mikhael Gorbachev. Reagan had absolutely nothing to do with it. The only contribution that Reagan made was to fund and train Bin Laden and his militia in Afghanistan which did lead to the failure of the Soviet Union there and later to 9/11 of course.

LOL Neo-cons believe this stuff LOL

Try looking up the USSR civil war at the time. Try looking up the USSR fiscal policies. Not to mention, Capitalism always will out perform Communism, financially. What a joke. The 40 years of CIA spying and counter intelligence had nothing to do with the fall of the USSR. Thanks Reagan aka Clark Kent.
