They make pretty good screens, but they are still considered a "B" list product. They are good value for the dollar, but please have reasonable expectations

ok the travelmate is rated excellent, if your paying 2000 for a laptop. Acer is also known for gaming, so whoever said for emailing etc, etc, hasnt used one. I have an acer and dell. Both excellent, but the Acer is slow to boot up, the dell is quicker, but im not sure if its because i have intel (dell), and amd (acer) and a little more memory on the Dell. my other firend had a acer desktop and complained about the same thing. After its booted up, has all the Bells and Whistles, nicere than the Dell, especially the stunning graphics. crystal clear. i saw this thing i think on pcworld about pc's under $500.
1 acer
2 dell
The acer is a very good computer, and is worth it, but beware of how it boots up. If you can check that out. Also the tech support is crapy. 3months software support and not that easy to get in touch with. But i have never had a problem.

My wife uses an Acer Laptop and is more than happy with it.
The only problem she did have was that for some reason Acer was not compatable with MSN Messenger. This was soon resolved by downloading a patch from Acer's website.

Acer is a good laptop. I use to own one for about 3yrs until my ex used it for a floor mat. Acer is the 3rd highest in computer sales, which a lot of people don't know.

If you just need it for basic computing (word, email, internet) then acer is a good budget laptop.

Compaq/HP has a decent laptop out thats around $400
