When Republicans were in the majority and engaging in partisan politics of this nature, Democrats squealed about how unfair the tactics were and how wrong it was. I call on Democrats to now acknowledge that their own party is no better in this area. They are using the war as a purely political tool now. What happened to that "New spirit of cooperation" Nancy Pelosi kept promising before the election?

Additionally, before anyone starts screaming about Republicans in this area. I will acknowledge that they have been just as bad right from the start, but 2 wrongs do not make a right.

Everything in politics is a political tool. Doesn't that make sense? If the issue got them elected in the first place, wouldn't it be just downright stupid to push it aside?

Poltical office is always about politics. After all, why do you think so many of the democrats voted for the authorization in the first place? It was brought up less then one year after 9/11, and the american people (myself included) wanted people to pay. We were so angry, all you had to do is give a name of "who's next" and any politician in a competitive district knew that it would be difficult to stop.

I like how the AP slanders the GOP in that article. Calling them 'Nervous republicans' and making it seem that only republicans backed the Iraq war, when most dems did as well!

Earlier today, I heard a democrat congressman say that the recent success in Iraq is not good for the democratic party! Huh??? Shouldn't they be more concerned with what's best for this country and not what's best for their party?!

Politics is politics. Democrats are trying to prevent a panic vote, they aren't trying to prevent Republicans from voting. They want a vote that is sane, educated and thought-out, not a partisan, "OHMYGODWEHAVETOVOTEALONGPARTYLINES!!!!!!!!!!!!" vote.

This happens ALL THE TIME.
