Follow the order of operations: PEMDAS, or Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction.

Check for parentheses first:
(24-35) = -11
There are no exponents, so skip to multiplication:
2*(24-35) = 2*-11 = -22
There is no division, so skip to addition:
31+2(24-35) = 31 + (-22) = 9

For the second problem, do parentheses first:
(7-9) = -2
No exponents, so skip to multiplication:
3*(7-9) = 3*-2= -6
No division or addition, so skip to subtraction:
29-3*(7-9) = 29 - (-6) = 35

Use the distributive property to 2*24= 48 and 2*-35=-70 and add the two sums. (they equal -22) then add 31for a total of 9.

for the 2nd one, use the distributive property to get -3*7=-21 and -3*-9=27 once again add the two for a subtotal of 6. add the remaining 29 for a total of 35.

This works because the Distributive property of multiplication over addition or subtraction allows you to get rid of the parentheses () and be left with a relatively easy addition or subtraction problem. as an example: 3(4+5)
1. multiply the 4 by 3 (12) and the 5 by 3 (15) If you check,
3(4+5)= 3(9)=27=12+15.

2. add the remaining 12 and 15 for a total of 27.

If you check
3(4+5)= 3(9)=27=12+15.

all of those terms are represented in the example problem.

I hope my explanation made sense, if it didn't ignore the explanation bit completely, hope my answers are right, and ask someone a little less long-winded later.

Carry out operations inside parentheses first.

31 + 2(24-35)
31 + 2(-11)
31 + (-22)
31-22 = 9

29 - 3(7-9)
29 - 3(-2)
29- (-6)
29 + 6 = 35

Simple! Use the basic PERMDAS function.
Start with this 24-35= -11
Then it will look like this 31+2(-11)
Then 31+2=33
Then you have this 33(-11)
Then you have the solutuion -363

29-3(7-9)

7-9=-2

29-3(-2)

29-3=26

26(-2)

-52

Hopw that helps.

Perenthesis
Exponents
Multiplication
Division
Addition
Subtraction

PEMDAS

follow that from top to bottom

so for the first equation you would subtract (24-35) because its within perenthesis and thats the first thing you do =-11. and then you multiply your answer by 2 because its the next operation to do so itll = -22 than at it by 31 it should equal 9. the other question you do it the same way. the answer is 35

31+48-70=
79-70=9

29-21+27=
8+27=35 distribute the +2, and -3 respectively

we learnt it as BIDMAS

Brackets, Indices (powers), Division, Multiplication, Addition, Subtraction.

So do the brackets first 24-35=-11
Then multiplication, so 2*-11 = +22
31+ 22 = 53

Same for other, 7-9 = -2
-3*-2 = +6

29+6 = 35
