Why does a high school football team ask for so much money?
My son he is in the team, well he is new. I had to pay $60 for his cleats which I could only buy from the school ( included gloves), $200 dollars for a fundraiser, Extra insurance. Do they even need that much money? I had to pay $34 for spring practice, and $120 for 1 year of football That would make it a total of about $400.. Even the player's meals have to be paid, and tickets, unless one is in the Touchdown club, which requires one to pay around 200-500 dollars.

Ones kid may not play if one doesn't join the Touchdown club. Haven't they pulled that one on you yet?

I've seen it before, great players don't play or don't make the team in favor of someone who's parents are part of the "booster club". It stinks but you have to pay it.

You 'HAD' to buy the cleats and gloves from the school? I think not, there are many sporting goods stores around and of course the internet. Extra insurance for what? Normally you sign a waiver for a student to play any high school sports which basically limits the schools potential liability for any injury. And you as the parent health insurance would cover them for any injury. And then $34 for spring practice? For what? And meals? Have never heard of such a thing. Not sure where you live but it seems rather backwards.

Sounds like our getting fleeced. My school's you had to buy a spirit pack which was 40 dollars, that had 2 shorts, 2 shirts, a jock, and a pair of socks, just like the game socks. Then you had to pay 40 dollars for summer league, and that was for the coaches only. Since they don't get paid for being there thats for them, and it comes with a physical, and all the other stuff one might need to play. Then my parents bought me cleats, and gloves. All meals, home and away were paid for by the boosters, and by revenue from the games. 80 bucks is about right in my mind, thats how much you pay for the junior leagues.

Everyone has to buy extra insurance at my school. 60 bucks for shoes and gloves isn't that bad. The fund raising should not cost that much. That pretty incredible. They also shouldn't charge you just to be in spring practice. Situation varies from school to school regarding field and equipment etc. but it think there is some fleecing going on.

You could only buy the cleats and gloves from the school? Have you ever heard of East Bay? And I don't know where your son goes to school but that sounds like alot of extra costs, here all it costs to play is 75 dollars, they give out free used gear. Your school is sucking you for every cent they can get.
