A raging hot summer with no cool breezes and 98% humidity drives people mad. There is a total solar eclipse, and that leads the religious to believe its armegeddon, the greenies to think global warming has completely clouded out our atmosphere, the science fiction addicts to think a giant asteroid or space ship is blocking out the sun, people who are completely exhausted from lack of sleep start roaming around outside because its finally cooling down, and the leaders of all the governments start to panic and push the end of the world buttons and launch ICBM's at each other.
Then, for about five minutes after the eclipse ends, everyone says, "Oh, false alarm! Guess were okay after all!" and goes about their business. Everyone, that is, but the ones who pushed the buttons......

You forgot about Yellowstone park, if that volcano ever blows, say good bye to all of the United States, and goodbye to sunshine for a very long time, meaning no plants could live, meaning no animals, meaning no food. Also you forgot about a killer virus could get us all. Or we could just all kill each other, we seem to be working very hard on that one. You know our sun could nova on us too, but that is millions of years off, something else will get us before then.
