They make a decent living. By coincidence may of those toll takers happen to have parents, uncles, or cousins who are state legislators. Those relatives and dear ones make sure that the toll takers are never underpaid and that their job involves "no heavy lifting." So I really would not worry for their welfare or for their eventual pensions.

Well, in 1999, my friend made $11.50/hr out at the springfield end of the pike. I am sure the wage has gone up since then. Maybe not by too much, but you could probably count on at least that much. Sorry I couldn't be more of a help.
