If e5 is displayed it means it cannot correctly read the humidity and needs to be replaced. For more details about this particular thermostat see the link below

E5 error code

You have a system error message…
The display may appear as follows: --, E3,
E4, E5, or E6
-- indicates a problem with the
indoor air sensor
E3 indicates a problem with the
outdoor air temperature sensor
E4, E5, or E6 indicates internal failure

E4 or 5 the Internal failure - replace Thermidistat control (see link below, Installation and Start-up Instructions, page 11)

check their website for a list of the error codes for that specific type of thermostat or check the owner's manual.... or try removing power i.e. shut off the power to it for 30 seconds and turn it back on, kinda like a reboot
