I tend to make a lot of songs up on the spot. But my favorite one to sing to my 2 month old is James Taylor's 'You Can Close Your Eyes". It seems to really soothe him to sleep.
What do you sing to your little one?

Mostly I make up my own words to children's songs - I add in her name and such. When she was a little smaller, I used to sing "Country Roads" by John Denver. She'd pass out every time. I only know one verse though, so I got rather tired of singing it. She also really liked "Leaving on a Jet Plane" - I seriously considered just buying her a John Denver cd!

LOL - and I just remembered that earlier I was singing "Breaking Up is Hard to Do" (some song I remember from my parents always playing oldies growing up), but I changed it to "Waking Up is Hard to Do" - she was not happy about getting up from nap time!

ETA:

Thanks nanny411 - I didn't know he made children's music, I will definitely look into that for my little one!

I sing to my little one the song my mom always sang.It goes...Rock a bye and don't you cry, go to sleep my little baby, when you wake up the sun will be up, and then you can play again all day :) Cute song huh

I was singing that to my 2 1/2 year old the other night and right after I was done he smiled and gave me a big hug...it was cute!!

I've always sung rockabye baby. I sing a hebrew blessing to my grandkids. I agree with the John Denver music- very soothing and he has some children's music out. He was an aquaintance of mine and a wonderful person.

With my older girls we do the usual Itsy Bitsy Spider, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star...etc...

With my new baby (4 weeks old) I sing Dream a Little Dream by the Mamas and Papas. She immediately relaxes when I start singing it.

I sing hush little baby and I hum Brahm's Lullaby. Don't think making up songs is wrong. My husband made up songs for our son and he still remembers them at the age of 4. Any singing is great.

A song that I have sung to my daughter since she was born is "Baby Mine" (from Disney's Dumbo). Even now (she is 7) when she feels sad or upset, or is away from home and feeling a little homesick, I can sing her this song and it calms and soothes her.

We sing a slow version of Raffi's "Baby Beluga"

My daughter's name is Kyra Isabel, and I made up song to the tune of the the Dreidle song one night while she was teething and miserable it goes like this:

I love my Kyra baby
I love my Kyra-Bel
And when she's oh so pretty,
My Kyra-Bel don't smell
Kyra Kyra Kyra
I love my Baby-Bel
Kyra Kyra Kyra
My pretty Isabel

I know it's silly, and gramatically incorrect... not to mention we're Catholic!!

She's now 4 years old, and we still sing it every night!!

My daughter is 2.5 and every night I have to sing ABC's , Jesus Loves Me, and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Otherwise, she won't go to sleep.
