There is actually no way, so just leave it alone. You will cause more damage trying. Most people get upset with what is called a damage coin but I don't for I am a numismatist and I not only collect coins but study them and their history. At least you have some initials and maybe can research them. You know the coin was used and may have been a lucky piece. If they were scratched in our chance of finding DH is slim, but if punched in maybe not. Different style punches were used in different time periods. I have an 1861-O half dollar sitting here in good/ About Good. It is well worn and is to worn to tell if the U.S., state of Louisiana, or the CSA made it. I can't tell the die state.I do know from it wear that it never stayed in the east but went out west, where it was used, for in the east it would have been hoarded and would be in grade VF and up. Just enjoy the piece of history you have.

there is NO way to get it off and preserve the quality of the coin. did the person selling it tell you it had those carved into it? If not, return it for every cent back, thats fraud.
