You may or may not need a graphing calculator. Check with your school before you spend the $100 some dollars on one. The TI-84 is good, and for introductory algebra it will do way more than you will need. Good luck with algebra. Make sure you brush up on pre-algebra skills. I didn't before I took Algebra I and I suffered.
Also you may not be allowed to use a graphing calculator in high school math, so keep that in mind before buying. They will let you use TI-83s on the ACT I think thought, maybe 84's are allowed too.

you do not have to have a graphing calculator for 8th grade math, but it would be helpful. especially if you are doing any algebra. the ti-84+ is a great calculator that you could use all the way through college

No you don't need a graphing calculator until high school, but it will come in handy if you want to go ahead and get it. When I was in 8th grade I was in Algebra, but I used graphing paper instead of a calculator.

If you get it now, it's definitely an investment. I got my ti-84 when I was in high school, taking Algebra...it has served me well through Algebra...Chemistry...Trig & College Algebra.

Hey there!
If you're in Algebra 2, then you need it, since you have to graph many curves, like circles, ellipses and parabolas. If you're in Algebra 1, or other math subjects lower, then no. You don't have to worry about it.
Hope it helps!
