I am 16 and I started my period around 14 or 15. It has been irregular ever since, but in March or February of this year, my period came and lasted for 3 weeks and it has not come back yet. I'm very afraid to tell my doctor because I might have to get tested and I don't want to have any kind of infection or illness. But on the other hand, I want to tell her because someday I want to have kids and I do not want to mess up my body being able to concieve properly. I'm so afraid, so any tips or advice as to what to do would be great. And do you know what this may sound like or have any friends with the same problem? Thanks your answers are deeply appreciated!

Well, if there is a problem it will only get worse by ignoring it and allowing it to be untreated. You need to tell you doctor so you can find out what might be the problem.

Ok the first thing you do is tell your mom. I know its difficult I had the same problem I felt very very uncomfortable in my skin when I started and was very confused. I also had the same situation but with my grandma I went to go visit her and just my luck I started my period again now this was like after like a year of having it and I still felt uncomfortable telling my grandma so what i did its used toilet paper which sucks. Latwer on I tokld my mom on the phone when i called her and what do you know she told my grandma that is atrted and if she could get me some pads. of course my grandma said why didnt you tell me. Just tell your mom dont be afraid after you tell her she'll get you pads and get everything you need. You will feel better once you tell her. Also with stomach cramps take midol. I know it sucks but hey now you get to join us! I am 17 years old and I started mine when I was around 13 years old so I know what I am talking about. Congratz on your period.

Its very normal to have irregular period at your age. I'm 23 and I still have that problem. My doctor put me on the Pill to help and it did so much. Your doctor needs to know. You don't want to mess around with your health just becuase you're afraid of an infection, which the chances of it being an infection are slim. Infections don't usually mess with your period. Just go see your docotr.

My dear don't be afraid of the Doctor. You sound like you have a hormonal imbalance especially since you mentioned bleeding for 3 weeks. This could be due to a cyst on the ovary. The examination for a cyst is very easy, all the Doc does is feel through on the outside of your tummy. I've had it done. Talk to your Doctor, it's very important to know what's going on, it's the mature thing to do.

It's normal for your period to be irregular during your first few years of having one. For many women it's a life long issue. Let her know they're not regular and ask for any advice she has. She'll probably tell you to just watch it over the next few years. If things don't get better within a year you may try birth control pills.

Many girls that start past the age of 13 or 14 have problems similar to the ones you describe above. It may be scary, but talk to your DR. If something is wrong, it can be fixed quickly.

I'm not sure what it could be sweetie, but I recommend you go see your doctor ASAP. Talk to your Mom or someone and take them with you. You shouldn't be scared, doctors are there to help you and if there is something wrong, it's better that they find it now than later and it causes many problems later on in life as well as heartache. Please go see a doctor.

Best of luck...

There really isnt anything to be scared of. The dr. is there to help you. I dont think you really have anything to worry about, especially since you are so young and you have only had your period for a few years. You should contact a dr, although you really have nothing to worry about. Good Luck!

That is a nonsense fear. Unless you know that doctor and dont like him/her. There is no reason why you shouldn't talk to your doctor.

You can also find another one that appeals better to you.

In my opinion, it is good to know what's going on in your body and a good doctor will help you find out.
Go for it!
