Hook the cable on the clutch lifter (on the engine).
Route the cable the same as the old one.
Install on the clutch lever.
If you can't figure that out you shouldn't be repairing the bike without a shop manual.

Must have been an old car ... there all hydraulic nowadays, so to answer your question ... it's extremely rare for a clutch 'cable' to snap. To drive without clutch is a matter of getting the engine revs and roadspeed right. You have to slip the gear when there is no drive pressure on the cogs. It's easier to change up without a clutch than down. If you do try it (and I don't think it's a good idea), to stop knock the car into neutral and brake .. to set off again the best option (and before anyone gives me the thumbs down, it's not recommended) is to turn off the engine, select 2nd gear and start the car ... once the car fires hit the gas and away you go. It's a hell of a way to get moving and doesn't do the bendix gear any favours. As a 'get me home' measure I drove 150 miles like this in a Mecedes 310 van ... but then, it wasn't my van!
