I'll answer the second part first.. What is the meaning? Well, the dictionary defines it fairly well. And the cliche, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder (or beer holder ;-))" is quite apt.
Alternatively.. That which stands out; exceeds/excels; is extraordinary in some way; distinguishes itself; is different from the "norm"; otherwise uncommon, in a manner which is aesthetically pleasing and enjoyable to look upon. But that is also be highly subjective--heavily influenced by ones own perceptions; their experiences, expectations, wants, needs, etc.
My personal opinion, what I consider beautiful? In a context of beautiful people.. Beauty comes from within, and I don't mean something like "personality". Call it an "aura" if you will, but it starts from within and radiates outwards, affecting you in many little ways from body language to simply how you're perceived when someone else looks upon you--or more accurately, how your "aura" affects how others perceive you.
I find that which is less common, more unique, to be beautiful. Things which I see every day, I grow accustomed to, often to the point it simply does not register to my conscious mind. But things which are unusual or uncommon grab my attention and draw my interest I often find very pleasant to look at and examine/study.
In short, what I find to be beautiful is that which can capture my interest and captivate me; But I cannot give a precise definition or example, because I cannot predict what would have that effect on me.

First off Beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder and what one person finds beautiful another may not. Outward or physical beauty is something or someone that stuns you, that you wish to look upon and you find breathtaking, a piece of art can be so beautiful you are transfixed for hours just taking it in, or a person can be so beautiful all you want to do is look upon them. inner beauty is very different, even the plainest person can become so utterly beautiful that they move you totally. Someone physically plain that becomes your friend can show unique caring, support, compassion and understanding that you have never had from another human being and those qualities they behold can make them the most beautiful human being you have ever encountered. So what is beauty? It is a different meaning to each and every person. Some will only need or be satisfied with physical beauty. Those of us who live a deeper life, who encounter more pain, will recognise beauty far and beyond physical features.

Beauty has different meanings for different people:
there is physical beauty, and even that is very subjective. People from different countries have different views of beauty. In Western cultures, beauty is to be slim, nice skin, good hair, good outfit and seldom make-up. In some African countries beauty is more about how healthy you are, and than means how big you are. Being big means that you eat well, and your children are going to be healthy. Other african cultures see body piercing as beauty and the more you have the more chances you have to get married. SO its tatoos.
There is spiritual beauty. I had friends, amny years ago who didn't care about people's appearance. They would look for someone honest, spiritual, sincere, kind, faithful and truth. In a sense, physical beauty fades with time, and spiritual beauty stays longer, sometimes forever.
There is intellectual beauty: when people are amazingly intelligent and smart. Some people don't care less for how you look like, but what do you know about the world. Those people are often wrngly called geeks, but in a way they are the ones who will be successful in the future. Just think this: the miss universe 2007 will get old, and she will be forgotten. whatever she did to get to the position will be gone in one year, or 10 the most. Fashion is not looking for 30 or 40 year olds. 'Geeks' will have success forever. They are the ones who will invent things, rule the world, be rich and be remebered in history.
I've said too much now.
For me, beauty is a bit of everything. I don't believe in perfection, but I know that my sense of beauty changes everyday. One day i fond blondes, the next day brunnettes or red hairs, etc.
Remember beauty doesn't have to be sexual.
I just talked about beauty in people. I haven't even talked about beauty in other things.

Beauty - 1. the quality present in a thing or person that gives intense pleasure or deep satisfaction to the mind, whether arising from sensory manifestations (as shape, color, sound, etc.), a meaningful design or pattern, or something else (as a personality in which high spiritual qualities are manifest).
There is beauty in everyone and everything, a person just has to know where to look for it. There are a lot of people that catagorize beauty as being perfection, but even the most beautiful person has flaws. There are also a lot of people who see beauty as being on the inside and not the outside, and that in my opinion is the best way to find beauty.

AS the old saying goes 'Beauty is in the eye of the beholder'
This applies to anything, many people find snakes and spiders 'fascinating' as a euphemism for using the word beautiful. If they said what they really felt they wouldn't just be considered odd but rather 'qu**r' in the strange sense of the word and perhaps scary to others.
Of course we find many members of the opposite (or same gender) beautiful and we also sometimes refer to someones beautiful actions.
As with so many words in the English language it can be used as an absolute term or a relative term with descriptive and active references as well as a superlative. IE Noun, Verb and Adjective (I think I have the terms correct)
The picture of 'you' can be said to be beautiful, or we could say 'you' are beautiful, both would be correct but one has an artistic reference whereas the other is a statement. It does remain, however, a personal opinion and of course such comments could be misconstrued but they are made only in the context of answering the question.
My favourite beautiful 'thing' is our glorious countryside (UK) and I wish we didn't need to keep building on it.

We find beauty all around us. In nature, in children, and also in beautiful people. If the beauty is only skin deep and the persons soul is not beautiful, this is unfortunate. For me inner beauty does not go together with vanity.
Some girls bury their soul when believing only physical beauty counts and over the years when experiencing that they lack happiness they try to find their soul again. So for me beauty is something in a person when inner beauty and inner grace is "combined" with physical beauty. Some people have no beautiful physical body and still can they come over as beautiful if the soul radiates beauty.
Physical beauty is a gift like all other gifts and one can use this gift for selfish stuff or for good stuff. The meaning for all beauty on this earth is to uplift us and not the opposite.
If you are beautiful use this gift for something good. Do not play with it or think that outer beauty automatically reflects inner beauty. Outer beauty alone has nothing to do with being happy in ones life it just means you are physically advantaged. For some people physical beauty can also be a burden. It is not very pleasant if people wherever one goes stare at you.

Well to me, everything is beautiful, that is of course every moving and living thing. Now of course some of those moving living things are not quite as beautiful as the others, so the level of beauty is what I am looking for. Beauty is what pleases the senses. The most beauty is that which pleases the most.

Whatever it is, beauty is impermanent. It will eventually rot and decay like everything else. It is temporary, and to rely on it is foolishness. Beauty is a state of perception, and there are 6 billion people on this planet, so there are 6 billion perceptions of beauty; You may be good looking, but in 10 or 20 years your 'beauty' will have deteriorated. The only truly beautiful thing is 'selflessness'.

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder"
"Outer Beauty is only Skin deep"
"It's what's inside that counts"
A person can be drop-dead gorgeous on the outside and have an ugly, negative soul.
A person can be mediocre on the physical and a beautiful soul. It's the soul that makes the difference. The body is just housing the soul.
