My parents and peer group have said before that if a person plays with themself a lot and is obsessed with sex when they're young that they are more likely to become gay. They say this is true because most gay people want to play with themselves and have sex all the time.

You have GOT to be kidding. Aside from what quantifies as "a lot", I figure the oft quoted 'Men think about sex every eight minutes' would therefore make every male on the planet gay by their 16th birthday. "They say this is true because most gay people want to play with themselves and have sex all the time." Riiight. And strip clubs are just dying for patronage.

What shall we do with a question like yours? You might be serious but you probably posed the question for effect.
However, I have heard some good ones about the taboos involving masturbation but yours about converting one’s sexual orientation is a doozy.
A couple I heard in High School were:
1. If you masturbate too often (nobody ever bother to site just how often “too often” was), hair will grow on the palms of your hands. The joke was that you would say this with authority to some high school buddy and then watch the high school boy scrumptiously check his hand. Lol
2. Excessive masturbation will “drain your spinal column”.
Taboos against sex, in any fashion, are usually born of some religious misconception normally associated with the attempt of the few to control the actions of the many.
Regarding obsession you might observe the amount of energy devoted to sex, banning it, condemning it, decrying it being overly concerned with it and observe that this is generally the bailiwick of the fundamentalists’ religious minority.
Then ask yourself about the defense mechanism of sublimation (look it up in any competent psychiatric journal) and who in our society is the most concerned with sex.
This might be an eye opener.
In any case, medical science is about to decide that one’s sexual orientation is genetically determined and is in no way to be considered abnormal, except by bible thumpers, of course.

Your ability to write shows you are a fairly intelligent person and ought to know better than what your parents and peers are claiming. So, I am dubious about the seriousness of your question.

please...if that were true, then almost everyone would be gay! and I know lots more straight people who are way more obsessed with sex! no disrespect to straight people at all.....most of my friends are straight. and gays and lesbians don't want sex any more than straight people do....just my personal observations in life.

Actually, if you play with yourselves too much at any age, you become heterosexual. That's why there's so many of them-they're all sex-crazed perverts. Heterosexuals are the majority of people who rape kids, rape adults, sexually harass people, since they are the majority, and they're sex-crazed perverts.
That's why I'm bisexual. I'm not sex-crazed or a pervert. The only people I know who've raped kids or adults, are heterosexuals. Watch out for them-they're dangerous.

of course not, that is the most ridiculous thing I ever heard. you are gay when you are attracted to the same sex, things you do don't make you gay. and just for the record, gays are not the only ones obsess with sex, so are straight guys.
