The democratic party panders to minorities and the poor for votes. In doing so, they alienate everyone else. This is not the base to build a future on. They must begin to seek out common ground with the mainstream Republican and Democrats.

You are wrong. They fight for the rights of the minorities and the poor. The Republicans need to come out of the far-right camp. They have alienated most of the US except the Neo-Cons and the religious zealots.

They need to learn how to unite and work together rather than crammming their views down everyone's throats. You would think the GOP would have learned this by now. Historically each time the GOP gets in power they pull this "My way or the Highway stunt" They they get thrown out when people realize they are divisive and bad for the country.

Then after a while people forget or think they deserve another chance and then the cycle repeats itself.

Yes, they pander to the poor and minorities, but they don't have to reach out to mainstream Republicans. The minorities are growing much faster than the Republican base is growing so they will achieve victory with the greater numbers of minorities voting for Dems. That is why the Dems are so hot to legalize all the illegal aliens in the US. They want them to vote Democrat when they become citizens.

Good answer, Dark S!

The only flaw in their plan is that the Latinos and other minorities will become more conservative and vote Republican after they have achieved financial success. It is up to the Repubs to reach out to these people, BUT NOT by pandering too them as the Dems and their presidential candidates are doing to La Raza!

not quite true, yes, they pander some to the poor and minorities, but they don't give them much. They pander more to the elitist who wants to feel good about not being with the "mean spirited" party. The spin is that it is mean spirited to expect people (not all people) to work to support themselves. Most of those Hollywood types (obviously with some exceptions) are liberal. All union workers (and believe me, while not often rich, they are not poor) are more likely to be Liberal than not.

Also, not all minorities are liberal. I believe Cubans tend to vote more Conservative

Helping people who need it, not just the folks for may have voted for them last November.
Democrats fight for the under priveledged even though they maybe well off- John Edwards or Bill Clinton, or hell ME! I am an educated white Democrat who Damn well knows the difference between **** and shinola and I am NOT afraid of those in power who use fear, division politics or bullshit into making me stop fighing for YOUR rights as an American!
With history as a judge, this time we live in is really showing who has courage and who is lacking.
We may disagree, bu tI will fight for your right to disagree. THAT is what a Democrat does.

If that's the case why would anyone vote Replublican (unless you're filthy rich). I don't vote along party lines. You act as though gas is going to be different prices for different parties. Any one voting along party lines because they're expected to is a fool. Do your research & pick the lesser of the two evils. I voted "W" the first time but not the second. This country is in a mess.

The democratic party may indeed pander to minorities and the poor for votes but the Republicians try to find new ways not to have their votes counted at all.

Well given the fact that there are way more poor or close to poor people in the US than rich folks, the Dems know that if they can get the poor to vote that they can beat the Republicans everytime.
