they just want what's best for you.
"who care's if he's from the wrong side of the tracks, momma, he treats me like a lady!" and then he knocks you up and leaves you. and momma takes you in and holds you when you cry, without so much as an 'I told you so.' that's love.
And sometimes they're just plain stupid.
"I love her, mother." "No Islam son of mine is marrying a Jew!" (sorry, it's just an example, sorry sorry sorry) But it really is true love, and you get married and live happily ever after.
Sometimes when you're infatuated, you're not the best judge of character. But if it's really important and SOOO sure, then you just follow your heart, but DON'T you DARE burn those bridges. You'll always need them. Try HARD for a compromise, and if you can't get things comfortable, at least get them functional. My dad's mom hates my mother, but that doesn't keep her from loving her grandkids. In the end, it's only up to you. and you can't let other people's pre-set standards or prejudices interfere with your happiness. You may set yourself up for like as the darkhorse, but if it's love, so be it.

I got very lucky and both of may parents like my husband. My mom raised me and I really value her opinion because she is fairly upfront about how she feels about a subject.
I tell my husband that he has seniority over and above my sisters husbands.

Somewhat importand. Depends on the subject. But my parents love everyone. They would love my gf so much they'd probably scare her away.

My moms opinion matters the most. She is ALWAYS right about the guys I date! I should listen to her more often!
