The difference is that they are your parents and they have a responsibility to protect you from that which could be harmful.
In itself there's nothing wrong with liking vampires and surrounding yourself with things that remind you of them. After all, you're young. Some girls go with horses, and others go with other fantasies, you've chosen vampires.
The problem is with other people. There are lot of adult preditors out there who take in people who are interested in vampires. He may tell you that he is a vampire and wants you to be a donor. He may tell you that he can give you secrets into sexual extasy. He may tell you that he can give you immortality. All of this sounds exciting but what he's really looking to do is hurt you, physically, emotionally, psychologically, spiritually.
It's all well and good for me as an old person (after all, I'm 34) to say this but I've seen it happen far too many times. Because I'm something of a confidant with my nieces and nephews and their friends I have gone on occasion to extract someone from these situations.
So your parents are mostly worried because they don't want to see you hurt in this way, and because they love you.
And that's a good thing!
Once you're over 18 you will be an adult and free(er) to choose your own path. To bad it takes another 5 - 10 years to really get the wisdom required.
Enjoy growing up!

I can't say I blame your parents. Nothing wrong with vampires I love reading about them and listening to music about them and watching movies about them. But Vampire Freaks and various other vampire based groups go overboard. There's a thin line between fantasy and reality some people cross over that line. And that's where trouble leads too. Did you hear about the murders in Florida? It was humans who role played as vampires. I don't think there's nothing wrong with role playing but still it's going way too overboard. They shouldn't call you a freak but still there doing what's best you'll understand later down the road.

It sounds like your parents are scared. They probably think that your gothness is going to far. Remember, most people do not believe in vampires.
Remember, that they love you.
Not everyone you meant means for you to be safe and happy. Some people in fact want to hurt you and sometimes they will hurt you just to get their jollies.
This is a website, that lists just 16 different murders who thought they were vampires.

So you are interested in mythology, whats so wrong with that? Ask your parents if they ever read a book about the occult or mythology, ever used a ouijia board, or went to a fortune teller. Then if they admit to doing any of that, use it against them, and tell them they had the same curiosity at one time.

They're just concerned for you. Vampires are connected with death, and lots of young people get depressed and some even commit suicide. So your parents are just worried that may happen to you. So cut them some slack.
But also remember, you're not a freak. It's normal to become intensely interested in things, as long as they don't rule your life.
